Going back to Mesatepe!

I signed up this past weekend to go back over to Nicaragua in January with a group of about 20 guys from Bridgeway! My good friend Aaron Padgett will be coming along on this trip as well, which is exciting. Bryan Kaniuk & Bryan Elliot from our small group will also be going along, so I'm excited about the group of guys I'm going with to say the least. I've been told the men's trips are a much different experience than the family trips, so I cant wait to experience Nicaragua again! Also looking forward to seeing many of the friends we made in July in El Tanka, the small village we stayed in! The January trip is less than 4 months away, so it'll be here quick. Will definitely miss Hannah on this trip, but something tells me we'll be going back again ; )

Support Update

Wow, where to begin and how to say it...

This is the first time we have raised funds for a trip  and it's been a humbling experience so far.  We have been blessed by the responses of friends, family, co-workers, and even barely acquaintances. So we thank each of you for supporting us and/or encouraging us!

As of today, we are within $500 of reaching our goal, specifically we are shy $452.00. This is far better than we were expecting, which affirms that God's plans are bigger than our's.

Although our total amount is due May 3rd, we will still be taking contributions up to the day we leave. Contributions above our personal goal will go towards the overall mission.

Nicaragua on Bridgeway's Website

Below is a link from our church's website that gives more detail on how we established a presence in Masatepe, Nicaragua. It includes pictures of the church where we'll be staying and most importantly, what a typical outdoor toilet will be like. Looking forward to that one!

Enjoy!

Nicaragua Support Updates

In our last Nicaragua meeting it was decided that our "Money Due" date is now Monday, May 3rd. This will grant the church more flexibility with purchasing the cheapest airfare. We plan on paying the difference of what we owe for the trip and what has already been contributed to us out of pocket. Therefore, we ask that any contributions sent after May 3rd be addressed to Hannah and Brandon Weidman instead of BridgeWay Community Church. Checks made to the church after this date will still go to the Nicaragua fund, but not to us specifically.

For tax purposes only (if you plan to write this off), contributions must be written to BridgeWay Community Church and our names should NOT appear anywhere on the check.

Leaving the States...

If you're visiting this page, it's likely you've heard about our planned trip to Nicaragua in the summer of 2010. So, we thought we'd take a moment to share with you how we came to this decision and what we hope to accomplish while we're there.

In December of 2009 we began reading a book together called
"The Hole in our Gospel" by Richard Stearns. As we read this book we became increasingly challenged by the message to serve the poor and needy. Both of us felt a stirring in our hearts that must be reckoned with. We had unanswered questions of when, where, how, and who to serve, until we heard about the opportunity to serve in Nicaragua with our church.

We will be joining a team of 30 in July 2010 to serve, love, and fellowship with the Nicaraguans. Some trip objectives include:

  • Children's ministry: VBS
  • Outreach: vitamins, dental health, clothing, shoes, books, etc
  • Technology: computers, internet connection
  • Crafts: blankets, gardening, baking
  • Building Projects: houses and preschool building
  • Sports: baseball, soccer, kickball
If you're still reading this blog, we would also like to take a moment to share how you can support us in this mission trip:
  1. Prayer - We fully believe in the power of prayer! We would appreciate prayers for safety, for spiritual impact, and lasting relationships.
  2. Donations - We will be packing suitcases full of vitamins, dental care, and kids shoes. If you would like to participate through giving, please let us know.
  3. Financially - We are responsible to raise $2200 for this trip. Any monetary donation will be a tremendous help for us, so we can fulfill our desire to serve.
Thanks for your interest in our lives and supporting a growing passion in our hearts!
